More Needs To Be Done To Support SMEs.

Liam Coyne says more needs to be done to promote and sustain SMEs.

For Immediate Release.·

Liam Coyne, the Social Democrat’s candidate for Dublin South Central says greater supports are needed for small and medium business owners and potential entrpreneurs.

Speaking as the election campaign draws to a close Liam said the outgoing adminsitration tries “to tak the talk” when it comes to “praising its own deeds in relation to SMEs.”

However he says  “so much more could have been done by the government over the last five years.”

If returned to power he does not have much confidence in FG and Labour’s ability to deliver much needed improvements in the sector.

The Social Democrats have proposals they know will benefit the SME sector.

They want to create a safety net for start-ups through voluntary tax-credits. They also have plans to support local employment and create tens of thousands of sustainable Irish jobs and reduce Ireland’s dependence on foreign multinationals for employment

Liam said: “Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the Irish economy, and could potentially create up to 100,000 jobs in the next five years.”

“There is a huge appetite in Ireland among people who want to develop their own start-ups and create jobs. The challenge is that under the triad of established parties, no safety nets have been put in place for them.”

“We have highly capable would-be entrepreneurs all over the country who simply can’t afford to take the risk of leaving their jobs to start a new venture, knowing that there is no social welfare entitlement for them if they do not succeed.”

Liam, who employs 24 people at his tyre sales firm in Walkinstown,  says his own experience of running an enterprise through the chaotic boom-bust cycle of previous governments has taught him that there is a better way to do business.

“This government could have done so much more to create stable jobs. Alas it failed to do so and we in the Social Democrats have proposals we known can achieve that goal. ”

The Social Democrats want to develop a safety net for those who want to create jobs, by offering the same social protections on offer to PAYE workers on a voluntary opt-in basis.

The Social Democrats’ job creation policy is centred on encouraging innovation, reducing red tape for small business owners and start ups, and providing the same level of support for small and medium enterprise as multinationals receive.

The party’s Community Banking policy also includes ensuring credit is available to small businesses.

“As a small business owner, I understand the challenges that companies are facing. Practical policies like investing in infrastructure, introducing new apprenticeship programmes, and offering tax credits to small businesses for research and development are the cornerstones of the Social Democrats policies for industry.”

Ends.
